50 Merc spotted @ Hi Speed Custom

''1950 Mercury that has retained the same owner for the last 30+ years. Originally Chopped and Customized by the late Dick Dean, the hall of Fame custom builder known as “the man behind Barris”  and “the sultan of Chop.” He worked for Barris from the early 60's off and on until his retirement in 2005.
In 2005 the car was brought to Hi Speed Rod and Custom where it underwent a complete Show Quality 2 year restoration with over 2000 man hours spent. The Merc was stripped to bare metal to uncover the pristine body with no patch panels. All of Deans body modifications were left intact, but all of the finish bodywork and gaps were massaged to perfection. Paint is a Custom mix by “Johnny Vegas” in a PPG 5 stage Candy Pearl called “Wasabi.” Custom Pearl interior was expertly stitched by Eddie Salcido.
Powered by a 383 Stroker boasting 405hp and 415lbs of torque backed by a 700R4 automatic overdrive transmission. Modern amenities include Power steering, power disc brakes, power steering, Vintage Air AC and heat, tilt wheel, and amazing sound system with navigation. There is even a back up camera when you put her in reverse. Suspension was completely gone through and was upgraded to an Air Ride Technologies “Level Pro” system which can be set to raise to ride height when started, drop when shut off, and automatically level itself if extra passengers or weight are added. Rolls on custom Billet aluminum rims designed to replicate the legendary 1957 Cadillac Hubcap.
By far one of the most stunning Mercurys around and a Proven Show winner. On its first outing at the Goodguys Pleasanton show it was awarded the "Magnificant Masterpiece" award, it took 1st place in its class at the "Cops and Rodders" car show, and was just awarded the "PPG Dream Car" award in last Novembers Goodguys Southwest Nationals. It was also sponsored and used By Meguiars as their centerpiece in the 2008 SEMA Show.''
